It was a small conference room and they had about 200 people. No seats, standing only. The room was less than half full.

So if it was $20, the take for the night was $4,000.00 (with service fee included; and you know that will come out of the top). Now that is before the casino pays the band or takes their cut for putting on the show, advertising, etc...Not to mention comps on tickets, etc. And unless that service charge is for the casino's cut. Don't know.

Then the band pays the roadies, the trucking, the sound man, and all of that humbug. That's not a lot of money.

The casino circuit must suck for a small local band.

I only say what I say about Cowboy Mouth because I know Fred personally. As a touring musician for several years I've come across a lot of men that forgot to be men. Frankly, his progressive, uppity, touchy, feely kinda personality grates on me. The music is pedestrian at best and the lyrics come straight out of The Young and the Restless. Fred is actually a nice down to earth person but I still stay away from him. He cries when the sun sets at dusk. Lol

So your judgment on a musician and performer is based upon his off stage personality and that he's not as macho as you would want him to be. You know there are many great musicians that don't fit that persona, but I'm paying to see them perform, I don't give a rats butt if they weap to Celion Dion songs after the show, as long as the rock the stage while they are on it. I guess Elton John sucks as a musician as well.

Yeah, and I guess Rob Halford (The Metal God), sucks! Er, well at home he sucks! On stage he is Metal personified!

I know Fred and I love him dearly but he is self absorbed and unpredictable. Musicaly, his chord phrasings and lyrical content are outdated..... even back then when they were real popular. Having a top 40 hit doesn't mean you wrote something genius. I've recorded with him and without the help of producers and other writers, he's lost. His stage persona transcends his personal and business life. Countless number of lost studio time and live gigs because he wasn't "feeling it". I guess that's what burns me the most. How he's wasted my time, energy and money because something was hurting his sensibilities.

I agree that a top 40 hit doesn't make you a musical genius, never has. never will. Heck, Disco Duck was a top 40 song, as well as Bad to the Bone and anything by (insert rap artist here) but they are not lyrical genius's.
A top 40 hit is rarely a musical masterpiece - it is a song that contains a short verse, bass line, guitar rift or in the case of Phil Collins a simple non-complex drum highlight (I can feel it the air tonight) that sticks in people's heads. No more, no less. but I digress.

I don't dispute for a minute what you have said because I don't know Fred except for the times I've been an audience member of their performance. That's all I have to judge him by and will continue to see them because it gives me enjoyment as a paying customer. I'm sure most musicians have quirks that other musicians don't like just like doctors, engineers, teachers, etc. but many are still good at what they do.

So I'm guessing I won't be seeing you at their next gig? (just kiddin' ya Cujo!)
