Got stuck in one last night on O'neil, would have been faster to drive around it on sherwood. As I understand it, the location of these needs to be posted somewhere before they happen like a local newspaper or something for them to be legal. Does anyone know where to find the location of local checkpoints?

I never knew they had to be posted to be legal. I do know that they announce them on television, newspaper, and radio. As many as I've heard announced they only say that there will be a checkpoint, but have never announced the location (which would totally negate the point of having one) Like one member said, don't drink and drive and there won't be a problem. I personally don't think they should publicize them at all. If it's illegal and you do it, then you deserve to get caught. If these stops net one or two drunks and gets them off the road where they could possibly injure citizens, then so be it!

If you were mad because it delayed you getting home, chill out! Internet porn will always be there! Believe me, I check daily :)

I don't know about you, but cake doesn't do me to much good if I cant eat it. :dunno:

my comment was in reference to the fact that nobody wants to share the road with drunks but a lot of people are anti-checkpoint, yet don't have any better ideas.

that said, I don't get your comment.

My wife was nearly killed by a drunk driver last year . She spent 3 days in the Hospital and was off of work for 2 months .
My opinion might differ from some others here , but I don't mind the inconvenience .

I'm all for them myself. I never drink, period, so I have no worries.

However, I've never been in one before. How do they work, with having to inform them of you carrying and all? Will I get put in the cuffs again? LOL

I dont generally inform at a checkpoint unless I am asked to pull to the side or get out of the car. The checkpoints I have been through last all of two seconds. They ask to see my license, ask how I am doing, then send me on my way. I suppose that counts as an "official interaction" but I am not going to complicate things over a simple checkpoint drive through.

I've been through a few, usually very late at night. Usually, they have just come up to the window and played officer friendly to see if you've been drinking. We're chatting, so I don't count that as an official interaction. They didn't ask for ID. If they did I'd hand over the license and ccw.
I've been through insurance roadblocks also. I usually hand over my license, insurance card, ccw, and insurance license. I like those... :)

Same here. They asked me for proof of insurance, also.

If the interaction was more involved, I would notify them I had a gun in the car.

This was a year or so ago in front of the middle school on S Harrell's Ferry. I asked the deputy how many they had caught and he said "Two." They had the drunk van in the school parking lot.

Guys, I don't care what you do, but if you are approached by a LEO at a checkpoint, you have been approached in an official manner. Talking to a LEO while in line at the grocery, not so much.

FYI, it is most certainly an official interaction. Probably will never be an issue for most of us, but you broke the law nonetheless. The thing is, you never truly know when it may go from officer friendly to step out of the car. If you have not informed the officer by that point and you have been "chatting" with him, then you have just opened the door for that to be a violation.

Traffics stops go from "routine" to prone very quickly sometimes even when you do not think they should or realize they have. Instead of trying to skirt the rules when you think you can get away with it, it is generally better in the long run to simply play by the rules and notify. Especially in a situation that is unquestionably an "official interaction".
