Who remembers that story from 1984?
Video of the shooting and interview from 2002

    Reporter - "Any regrets?"
Gary - "No regrets at all"

Can't say I wouldn't do the same if it happened to one of my kids.

Plauche, 68, shot and killed his son's karate instructor at the Baton Rouge airport in 1984. The man, Jeffrey Doucet, was accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting Plauche's son, Jody.

Plauche waited for Doucet to be escorted back from California where authorities said Doucet had taken Jody Plauche before he was rescued and Doucet was arrested. He had been extradited back to Baton Rouge and was walking through the airport when Plauche, waiting by some payphones pulled out a gun and fired a shot.

Plauche was sentenced to five years probation and did not serve time in jail following the shooting. He maintained his actions were the natural response of a father who believed his son had been violated.

Gary Plauche died at a nursing home in East Baton Rouge where he had been living since having a stroke in 2011, family members said.

Being from Baton Rouge I remember this well. While rogue justice may not be a good principal to follow
I personally think Gary did the right thing here. My heart and prayers go out to him and his family.

More power to him for taking out that predator. If more of this sort of thing would occur...I'm guessing that many predators would think twice before preying on children.
It's hard to fault a father/mother who wants to protect their children. And its easy to understand the horrendous guilt one would feel if they felt they failed. So yea...I can see someone taking revenge.

This old guy remembers it pretty well, too. If I recall correctly, the Judge didn't really want to give Mr. Plauche any time at all. And honestly, I don't think a man on here would have done any differently than he. I know I wouldn't have, and that's no Macho talk.

If I remember he used a .357 Mag.? It is amazing due to the angle of the shot no one else was hit? Hell the cameraman was on the opposite side of the shooter.

While I understand the motivation, this is the last thing we want condoned in our criminal justice system.

I guess the criminal justice system should have done a better job protecting the molester. I know quite a few good men who would have acted the same in this situation if it was MY kid that had been violated, and I would do the same for their children as well. Rapists and child molesters have stepped too far out of the circle to still stand under the umbrella of society.
