That is pretty much what I did. They said it was linked to my IP address, that I was using when I was living in an apartment complex in metairie. I'd hardly consider that any type of proof considering how many ways you can get onto someone else's network. Next time they call I'm going to give them the standard I didn't do it, you have no proof I did this, good luck getting a dime out of me, etc.

You have any idea what the infringement supposedly is??

Do this: Demand from them their street address of their firm and their phone number, not an 800 number. Inform them, if they give you their info. that you will verify the info they give you. Tell them you only deal face to face with anyone demanding money from you. Inform them in no uncertain terms that you will deal with them in person, not over the phone or thru the mail.

See if they go away after that request.

No clue, they didn't name their client, the work, or anything else really. Just said it had something to do with BitTorrent. Got a call from them at an Illinois number asking me to call their Miami number. Probably a trick to get me on a recorded conversation.

Love the part where they say their agents were watching at the very moment you allegedly performed this dastardly act. And that's how they know it was you. lololol Big Shyster is watching.

You're right, this is extortion. Pay up and remain anonymous or we accuse you pubicly of downloading porn. The claimant is one company. Pay up and you get another from a different outfit next month. At least when people settled with RIAA it cleared them for ALL their music file sharing.

I looked through a few of Prenda's filed cases on their website....looks like they are representing the porn industry. All the cases I saw stated that the client was in the "adult oriented" film business.

Have them call the law office of Pat McGroin and Chase Intwatt?

Recently I worked for a small company that was hit with a patent troll law firm. They pretty much patented the way most Internet sites work. Sad thing is we would have to fight it in Chicago. Attorney fees to fight it made the owner settle for 15k just to have them go away. The legal profession is filled with sleaz and after Katrina, the insurance companies are right there with them.

I honestly think they are uploading their films on to bittorrent, then tracking the connections to the IP addresses that connect to them. The problem with that is, hundreds of people can be on the same IP address, especially when you're living in an apartment complex. The only way to really prove anything would be to dispose me and search my computer for the file they're saying that I downloaded. It was funny, when I google searched the name of the film, nothing came up, but links to download it.

That was the same thing I was thinking, especially judging by the last question on the q and a form.

Q: How do I make this go away?
A: Paying the settlement fee will immediately release you from liability and close the case.

They are a joke, trying to scare dollars out of people.
