Just wondering how much does your bug out bags weigh, including canteens/bottles full of water.

Mine weighs about 20 lbs, which includes your basic survival gear, food and ammo. I wanted to keep the weight low in case I need to trek.

If I am bugging out, I need a few friends and a couple of trucks. I have the equipment to get voluntary cooperation if it gets that bad.

Not counting water I'd say I have about 60 pounds of gear food etc. Water being 8 pounds a gallon another 80 pounds. So I'd need to get to a location to keep all my stuff once I leave the city's craziness.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah I wanted to keep it light in case I don't have access to a vehicle and/or appropriate amounts of fuel.

My second question would be where would you go? Obviously not looking for specifics but what parts of the country would you run to during an extended emergency.

My "Get Home" bag is packed so full that I would not be able to carry it more than a mile without having a heart attack. So I bought one of these and it rides folded up next to my bag in that back of the FJ.

^I don't see that working well in LA/ MS woods. Trying to get through wet mud or over a downed tree is going to be difficult.
For backpacking at a reasonable speed for most of us (those of you just out the .mil are another story... I talking about us 30+ year olds that have a real 9-5 desk job) pack weight needs to be under 40 pounds.

I agree, it would at the very least be slow going. Mine actually came from Academy and the wheels are larger, but it still wouldn't make much more of a difference in rough terrain. It would however allow you to pull your gear down the side of a road or interstate during the first few hours or even days of a SHTF event depending on how fast the said event spawns "zombies". It would also allow you to pull all your gear off of the road and 100 yards or so into the woods. My pack is an eberlestock and I have it loaded in a way that I can toss out or cache less important items if the going gets tougher. I live way out in the country, so all my plans revolve around getting home. If I can do that with the cart and all my gear, fine. If I have to ditch the cart and some gear along the way, well I'm prepared for that too. The cart just lets me start out with everything. It can also tote a 6 year old that may get tired before I do.

    And what would you bring?
google search, bug out bag list and see what applies to you. Mine is mostly a get home bag, but it's geared toward making it for 3 days, complete with self defense items and protection from the elements, hunger, etc. the hydration pack stays collapsed and empty and waiting for a quick fill of what's available plus a mini filter good for 60 gallons. Your best BOB is in your head.
    Basics: gun/ammo
    Knife
    Flashlight
    Para cord
    Dry socks
    Porno mag
    Lighter
    Fuel tabs for tender
    Small survival pack
    Lightweight rain gear
high protein and carb packaged food
    Collapseable water container
I also pack a bottle of honey and a micro cook set that's encased in its own metal cup and some dry soup packs. I have what I need in there and as light as some people think it is, my bag contains a surprising amount of gear, and I'll move faster

Mine too. But I also keep 3 jugs of distilled water in the back that I change out periodically. That way I can just fill all the bladders and canteens before I head out.

If your bag were bigger then you'd just find more junk to carry!

My backpacking bag is around 3400 cu inches. If it were bigger I couldn't carry it!

Lots of people here will show you military backpacks. They're tough sure. But they're not comfortable to carry. You need a good suspension that can be adjusted to fit you. Find something you can carry all day comfortably.

5.11 rush shows 1300 cu inches. I want to see pics of 3 days of food and water (or a full sized filter and water bottles), guns, ammo, shelter, first aid, etc fitting in there.

    Ammo is heavy, btw!

Edit..2800 not 1800..mistype...Mine is 2800 cu. in. and is the perfect size. It fits everything "I" need. You will gather a huge list of things from everyone who posts here, but will have to realize if you were to carry it all you may need a truck. I personally have the things that are top priority for me and don't try to lug anything I can do without using the skills that I have. I have the following items...
    M&P 40 with 3 full mags (46rds, 1in chamber)

1-50rd box of ammo(35fmj+15jhp mainly just for principle)***note I will be carrying my m&p40c with 2-10rd mags and 1 in chamber which adds an extra 21rds since it never leaves my side.

    1-250pc first aid kit

    1-extra pocket knife

    1-long blade knife

    1-box of matches

    1-lighter

1-fire starter tool (matches can get wet and lighter fluid runs out or lighter can crack)

    2-water bottles and some tablets

    1-vacuum sealed thermal blanket

    6-mres

    1-small but powerful led flashlight

    1-150yd roll of fishing twine

    1-100ft of para chord

Its a tight fit but its all in there.

My bob weights roughly 35-40 pounds (not counting guns/ammo)...I never actually measured it. its a two piece red head backpack I picked up from Bass pro. Its loaded down with what I believe I need to survive for 4-7 days on the move in the south louisiana. Im not going to get into the boring details of whats in it, but I do know that if you plan to tote 30+ pounds for any distance you need to be in some sort of decent shape. Sure it might not seem to be that heavy at first, but go walk 3-4 miles and see how it feels.

The only SHTF situation that I can feasibly see occurring when I am away from home is if my **** hit my pants. I keep a bag with a full set of business casual clothes and athletic clothes with underwear, running and casual shoes, and socks. Plus some basic firstaid stuff like Ibuprofen and cravats for bleeding. For surprise maintenance or work related stuff I have a multitool, fixed blade knife, and bungee cords, a blue tarp, and ratchet straps. For an active shooter situation I have my hand gun with a spare mag and box of ammo, said fixed blade knife, and I am working on building a lock box for a shotgun/rifle and ammo. Though I don't see myself placing myself in that situation but if some ******* stops traffic and starts shooting I would try to save lives; anyway a rifle or shotgun may prove useful for some impromptu hunting. I have my share of canned food, MREs, and water at the house and some bleach for further water purification but I really cannot see red dawn happening in real life. Most likely will be a strong storm that gives power outages and a boil order for water. I don't plan on carrying any of it but the vehicle stuff is in a backpack because it takes up less space. I don't mean to ruin anybody's fun tactical defense or hasty retreat plans but for the sake of practicality, bring stuff that you can actually see yourself using in an everyday situation and keep an idea in the back of your head for alternative uses for that stuff.
All of that is in my truck and car and is basic inventory that needs to go back after cleaning them out. I am not going anywhere without a vehicle, even in the woods.
