    A quick drill you can run at the range was developed by the late Col. Jeff Cooper. It involves shooting at an IPSC target, which may be purchased from the pro shop at LRA, at 25 and 50 yards.

    Begin at 25 with the rifle ready, engage the target with one head shot in 1.5 seconds. Repeat for a total of five shots.

    Then at 50 with the rifle ready, engage the torso,(large center rectangle) in the same manner. 1.5 seconds for five seperate engagements.

    Sounds easier than it is!! A perfect score within the time limits is hard to do.

    I like this one because it does not require too much costly ammo.

    Speaking of the late Colonel, from what I understand, he had a great disdain for the assault carbines. The 5.56 and 7.62x39 were considered minor caliber and not up to the task of a true Rifle. This particular drill was run with his beloved Scout, and not an AR platform.
