Just because a bullet expands in jello, I mean gel, doesn't mean it'll expand in a person. Jello, I mean gel, isn't an effective human analog. It IS an effective way to sell bullets.

I love asking my buddies... "Hey man, how come you only shoot bulk 115gr FMJ's out of your G17 at the range but carry 147gr GoldDot or PDX1 or Hydrashok in your Keltec that I never see leave your holster?"

"Dude, that **** is expensive, and my PF9 hurts my hand after 20rds!"

"Yeah, but I see your very careful and calculated practice attempts at quick follow-up shots and your hours spent trying to double-tap same-spot and shooting on the run drills... how are you going to do that **** when you load ammo that has twice the punch in a gun that weighs half as much as you practice with?"

    "Dude, that **** is expensive!"

By looking at the numbers from the testing, and considering I pretty much only shoot/carry 9mm, it's going to be Walmart bulk JHP's forever and ever and ever, and practice, practice, practice. A center-mass double-tap with white-box JHP beats the hell out of a belly shot followed up by a clean high miss with GoldenSaber because it was too expensive to practice with. Life is a compromise, and I can't go to the range and fire off ammo at $1rd all afternoon until it just makes more sense to hire a full-time bodyguard. So I'll take my 13" of penetration and 1.6 expansion factor at .30cents per round and be happy. To each their own.

I bought 10k rnds of Ranger 127 +p+ yrs ago so I use them a lot

Is this the method you used? How do you get it in a bigger medium size? I wonder if you could use a plastic tote.

You can use one of those Rubbermaid drawers that come in a set at Wal-Mart.

The only time I fired at gel is when my brother called me and asked me to come shoot some in his yard. So, I grabbed a zip-loc bag of mixed .380 and a partial box of DPX, and fired five rounds at the gel. I don't have the space at home to make that kind of gel.

Call me silly but I'm more of the simple type.

A multiple dead center hit with .22 lr on up trumps a miss with anything else. When "they" stop the action that was life threatening, you can stop shooting "them". Bigger bullets tend to do better jobs than smaller bullets. Life is a trade off and to each their own on what is big enough for your particular needs.

    YMMV, but it won't.

Meaning, Dr. Fackler, study A, study B, US Army tests back to early 1900's (who LOVED the .30 Luger by the way, just sayin), tubs of Lime Jello on YouTube, et al are all interesting reading. But that depends on what's also on television at the time.

When they stop the action that was life threatening to you, stop shooting them. And have a good attorney handy.

Training with the gun you carry is obviously paramount.

Training with the specific ammo, though certainly a nice luxury, isn't exactly a do-or-die proposition, IMO. Yes, there may be differences in timing/recoil management, but they will be fairly nominal in the grand scheme of things. Steve's point about matching POA/POI is a key one, though.

The key thing is that you practice. A lot, and with the appropriate tool. If that means WWB or Tula is your only option for real trigger time, so be it. I'd much rather be the guy with 5k of 115 FMJ downrange per year than the dude with 2k 124 grain GDHP's.
