Kisatchie National Forest

Looking to do some camping in april. Kinda got it narrowed down to here. Was wondering if anyone has any first hand knowledge or info. Plan on doing tent camping and a little fishing. Thanks in advance

Kisatchie Bayou is a nice camp ground. It is a "primitive" camp ground, no elect., tent camp sites only.
I've never fished the bayou, so I don't know how good the fishing is.

I really liked some of the scenery, but the camp ground facilities (bathroom) needed some cleaning.

I've always wanted to do a 4-wheeler trip up there and spend a couple nights on the trail if possible. I'll probably plan a trip this fall once the temps cool a bit.

If you are going to hike and camp i recommend the backbone trail, its the only designated wilderness area in the state, lots of rock outcropings and small boulders with several overlooks. Its the only place in the state like it.

Check out Stuart Lake, near Pollock. Stuart lake is about 10 miles north of Alex/Pineville on US 165 (Monroe Hwy) to Pollock, then west on LA 8 about 2 miles, watch for the signs. Campground with picnic tables & restrooms/water is on one side of the lake, the day-use area w/swim area, picnic tables, restrooms on the other side. Part of the Catahoula District of Kisatchie National Forest.
