Now that it's officially legal night hunting season in Louisiana, figured we could start an "outlaw quadruped" thread.
Dropped these 6 last night.
Thanks.
And yessir. IR Hunter MKII 20mm on the rifle. IR Patrol m300w on the yote. Tough to beat thermal setup. This was the Patrol's first hunt. Have had the MKII for a month or so and its claimed several hogs in Tx. Planning to upgrade the MKII to the 35mm once hunting slows down.
182# boar this morning. Trapped him last night with a $40 Fremont leg snare thrower. I had three or four misfires from this particular snare before this pig (my error, not the error of the thrower). Think I may have finally figured out how to lay the thrower so it fires the snare properly. Trapping is not as easy as it sounds and I'm still learning. This is my fourth week of trapping and have had half dozen snare misfires, half dozen coral trap jail breaks and still seven hogs in the freezer. The boar this morning took off at me (he wanted a piece of me) and if that snare had not held he might have torn me up. That's the last time I get so close on foot to a wounded boar (about 20 yards) if I don't have to. Will shoot him with high powered rifle at 50 yards instead of trying to put a .45ACP in him from 10 yards.
