Looking to buy my first AK in the 400-500 dollar range. Can anyone give me tips or suggestions on things to look for. For instance, would this fit the bill, or are there better option for me out there? I'm new to the AK platform and do not know too much about them. Thanks guys.

You have to describe what your "bill" is. What are the criteria for your purchase? What's important to you? Otherwise you're just going to get opinions based on what is important to others.

I have some romys on nds's. 600-650 depending on furniture. But these are not build by a midget elf in a basement. Out of your price range a
bit but you get what you pay for.
In fact you can pick your color because one of them is in the raw still

just something else to think about

If the "cabelas ones" are the $350 on sale they had in a recent paper then no. Those are single stack, 10rd, ban era guns. My advice is to look around at what is available currently and see what you like the look of. The Romy/Russian style AK is the "standard configuration" I would say. They also have the Yugo which is slightly different. Then there are the folders like the Romy underfolder, Yugo underfolder and AMD-65 sidefolder. There are the most options in 7.62x39 but 5.45x39 (AK-74) is cheaper to shoot. Mostly those are going to be the standard 74 style configuration.
