So, it seems as if the lovely populace of Hopkins Street was acting up again after the parades in town this past Saturday. They were throwing bottles and rocks at the police on scene trying to clear the street out. Similar events have happened there in years past as well, causing police to use tear gas in order to disperse the crowd.
Sadly, it seems that an officer is getting administrative leave for this incident that was posted on Youtube:

[Also, here is the news article from our local paper. http://www.iberianet.com/news/hopkins-response/article_3209fade-2aa9-11e3-a751-001a4bcf887a.html

Now, before this turns into too much of a heated bebate trying to bash the police, let it be known that Hopkins Street is a Louisiana state highway (La. 675). Also, there was no parade actually on that street, and the "participants" of this gathering had no permit to be there, it was not an organized event.

I believe that it was time for their party to be over at 2 A.M.

Ackal said informants told his office the riot Saturday was a preview of more to come Sunday following the Royalty Parade. With his deputies already working overtime, Ackal said, he contacted State Police and the Sheriff’s Association.
State Police Troop I sent 20 troopers and an armored personnel carrier. He said the armored vehicle was needed in the event that another riot broke and people were injured in the fray. Acadian Ambulance, he said, will not go into a riot situation.
Another 40 deputies arrived from St. Landry, Vermilion, St. Mary, St. Martin and Acadia parishes. Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office also brought an armored truck.

    That says a lot.

This was not Butler’s first run-in with the law, according to the Iberia Parish Clerk of Court’s office. The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed he was convicted in March 2000 of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and performing sexual immoral acts.

He has also been convicted of other charges in Iberia Parish, including illegal use of a weapon or dangerous instrument in 2001, three possession of drugs with intent to distribute in 2005 and 2006, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in 2006, failure to change address as a registered sex offender in 2007 and 2012 and a couple of traffic offenses, according to the Clerk of Court’s office.

Capt. Ryan Turner, spokesman for the sheriff’s office, said Butler was arrested again Tuesday for a probation violation.
