My permit is due to expire. I went to look at the requirements for renewal on the LSP website. I may be interpreting this all wrong but it looks like there is no difference between submitting an application for renewal and submitting a first time application. Is that correct? Do I have to get all of the same pile of paperwork together and do fingerprints all over again?

Not really. As long as your permit hasn't expired beyond the grace period, all of your info / fingerprints are still on file with LSP. You need a training certificate(scan and upload), and everything else can be done on-line.
