Here's a reminder to all of those voters in St. Tammany. Please make it out to vote "NO" for the MILLS renewal on November 13. It will reduce your property taxes significantly.

These property taxes were enacted decades ago when property values were much lower. We only get a chance every 10 years to vote these down so now is the time. St. Tammany property taxes are outrageous.

I've been unsuccessful at getting an increase to the homestead exemption on the ballot. If we can't get the homestead exemption changed to reflect increasing property values then the only other way is to stop renewing existing mills and keep from passing new ones.

One more thing - If these renewals get voted down, they'll put them back on the ballot in the spring... and so on till they get them back. We need to be vigilant.

I feel that any form of Goverment should not get more funding, until they use the funds we already give them correctly.

I feel that any form of Goverment should not get more funding, until they use the funds we already give them correctly.

I feel exactly the same way with the caveat that the existing forms of government need to first be stripped of the power they've stolen and then give them only enough funds to do their constitutional job. I think we learned our lesson that we should never have publicly funded schools.

To my St Tammany brothers and sisters... I know the focus has been the ex-sheriff Jack Strain trial and the Casino vote coming soon on December 11. However, I'm hoping we all turn out to vote NO on the mill renewals this Saturday the 13th. We won't get another chance for TEN years.

This isn't about whether the tax is needed, it's about the fact that the renewal cycle is so long. We need to vote NO just to get a handle on the exploding financial windfall to the school board. We're talking 43 mills!

One of the reasons this gets renewed every ten years is because of low voter turn out. It's never put on a ballot that attracts attention. Additionally, the only way the parish needs to notify the public is to advertise in the St Tammany parish newspaper of record. Anyone want to guess who that is? It's the St Tammany Farmer, which is not available online. There's a better way for all La citizens to keep themselves informed.

If you check this link once a month you'll always know of upcoming elections and your ballot contents...

    Thanks for the heads up.
My gut tells me the current economic black hole we are in is not going to bode well for tax renewals or an increase in sales tax. It's a good time to trim the fat.
