Here's a reminder to all of those voters in St. Tammany. Please make it out to vote "NO" for the MILLS renewal on November 13. It will reduce your property taxes significantly.
These property taxes were enacted decades ago when property values were much lower. We only get a chance every 10 years to vote these down so now is the time. St. Tammany property taxes are outrageous.
I've been unsuccessful at getting an increase to the homestead exemption on the ballot. If we can't get the homestead exemption changed to reflect increasing property values then the only other way is to stop renewing existing mills and keep from passing new ones.
One more thing - If these renewals get voted down, they'll put them back on the ballot in the spring... and so on till they get them back. We need to be vigilant.
