Not defending their actions by no means but texas law is different from La. If on YOUR PROPERTY after dark, you have the right to shoot if someone comes on your property uninvited. But this was not their property, and they look like they need some rehab time alright.
But they have to be warned in some way. It's not just shoot on site for someone wizzing in the bushes.

The Houston Chronicle reported that a sign in front of the suspects' home reads: "Trespassers will be shot. Survivers [SIC] will be reshot [SIC]! Smile I will."

You cannot shoot a trespasser in Texas just for trespassing. You can use deadly force after dark in the case of theft. Burglary, you can shoot 'em during daylight hours. There is something wrong upstairs with these two people. They are in some kind of deep do-do now, killing a seven year old "trespasser." Jesus.

Just because a person doesn't see the sign for a "Gun Free Zone" doesn't mean that its not a gun free zone, the signs are somewhere.
