I am glad to hear that our Legislature has finally taken action on this important measure. I was not able to make any of the hearings even after my best suit came back from the cleaners.

This bill is a complete waste of time. It is already illegal to litter. Just enforce existing laws.

Isn't that what we all say about gun laws? Why is this any different? Just more laws. Muuust passs mooore laaaws... (said groaningly)

Am I the only one that remembers that in 2008 our GRATE(grating the USA DAILY)POTUS raised the Federal Tax on Cigs just after getting in office? I if not Blame Bush ,congress and Senate.am sure some smokers have not forgotten.
Part of the EXTRA tax was to clean Cigarette butts off Highways and roads.or a ploy to squeeze more people out of their money?
Just dont forget All that has been done by our Legislators in November (Vote them out!)

    Just My Opinion

That's $137,000,000.00 of revenue per year from tobacco taxes.

Hey....the state is ONLY making 137 Million per year from taxing cigarettes. I think that they should just ban all cigarette sales. That way...they can really put a dent in underage smoking. And just think....no butts = no litter

And...just think about how many extra people we will be able to arrest once we ban cigarette sales. There would be so many selling cigarettes illegally....that we'd be able to arrest more people....incarcerate more people....etc.

Of course...we will also need to make up that 137 million in lost taxes....plus raise even more money for the enforcement and incarceration. But hey....it's only extra taxes....right ?

This is hard to believe because I've seen less people exiled/ostracized to smoke behind their employers buildings and huddled next to garbage cans in the freezing cold in the last few years.

    Years 3 & 4 are interesting though.

Yea...and notice how much alcohol taxes are. There's no comparison. Only 55 million in alcohol taxes compared to 137 million in cigs. The thing about cigarette taxes is that every pack a day smoker is paying taxes 365 days a year. It is a very steady tax stream. As everyone knows...Nicotine is very addictive....so day in and day out...a smoker will be buying their cigs.
In any case...we may be the Butt of many jokes.....but we pay our sin taxes...365 days a year.
