Family Heirloom Thread

My favorite firearm heirloom is a P-38 my father brought from France. He carried it for awhile in combat (wasn't crazy about the 1911). The most interesting feature about the pistol is that there are what appears to be an Indian head scratched in shallow relief on each one of the bakelite...

What is your most useless firearm?

Here's mine. Not good for much these days, except for perhaps cracking pecans. :D [/IMG]

      DS Arms

With regard to FALs, DSA has lost some of their previously good rep in recent years. There have been some problems with receivers and other parts. They do usually make good on their warranties, though.

Gun Show, why do they do this?

I've been going to shows since the sixties. I have to agree that shows these days pale in comparison to shows of yesteryear. I used to love some of the collections of displays that used to be common at gunshows (Nambu collections, Lugers, Thompsons, etc.). But there are still deals, if you...

Considering getting rid of the FALs

What are the motivations for selling the FALs? You did mention that you are not shooting them enough. Would you replace them with something else? Do you need the money? The storage space? If you have totally lost interest in FALs then I would suggest unloading them when the market demand...

      Sherburne Today

Definitely need double ear protection. I expected it to be worse than it was, given the comments and pics I saw of what had been done to the rifle range. The baffles sure are a downgrade, but it's still a good place to sight in a rifle at 100 yds. for free.

      Sherburne Lately?

I was there a few weeks ago. It was in good shape with quite a few target boards, at least on the rifle range.

      Life expectancy of Sherburne shooters?

I was at Sherburne today. There were people at the pistol range but not the rifle range. There were a lot of target boards in serviceable condition which I rate as a big plus. There were dozens and dozens of bullet furrows between the firing line and the targets, which I found surprising and...

Heads up! FN FAL Complete Kits - Limited Supply $325.00 at entreprise.com

You are correct, sir. I don't know how/why some of the posters come up with the idea that end-users don't need to be concerned with 922(r) compliance, but they do so from time to time. Perhaps their erroneous conclusions are based on wishful thinking. But any of our contemporary FAL builds...

Heads up! FN FAL Complete Kits - Limited Supply $325.00 at entreprise.com

FWIW, the person that posted that on the FAL Files was in error: if you build a FAL, you need the correct number of 922(r) parts even if you are the end user.

Heads up! FN FAL Complete Kits - Limited Supply $325.00 at entreprise.com

Entreprise say they have around 1300 kits. These haven't been that cheap in quite awhile. These have barrels, which are no longer importable.

How about a cheap M1 Garand or carbine?

I doubt that it will happen. Definitely not under the current administration. Probably not under any future administration, be it Democratic or Republican. I do applaud the efforts of U.S. Rep. Cynthia Lummis and hope that other representatives support her proposed bill and others like it. I...

      FAL?What to look for?

The FAL Files is the best place to ask these questions. I know of at least one FAL-Filer near Alex, and I am sure that there are others. In a nutshell: Rifles built on Century receivers are a gamble. However, if the Century rifle used a Brazilian made Imbel receiver or an Argentine...
