I initially suspected that some of the people involved may be here on a student Visa. It is one of the easiest ways to get into the country legally and college kids are some of the most impressionable types. F1 is a Visa classification for Students for long term studies at a university or school. J1 is also but mainly used for exchange programs and short term classes.
