I will be happy to address the issue. The gun in the picture is a collector's item if it had its original barrel, it would be worth quite a bit. You would not buy it for competition. A) Has too much collector's value; B) not really competitive with a NM AR-15 in a regulat NRA service rifle match and C) it is not legal for the as issued M1 matches.
I can tell you alot more, but I have to run for now.
Not original barrel, looks like the stock has been refinished (on this I might be wrong). Even going back to a .30-06 NM barrel the gun is still not original. I'd be careful on it. Collectors is a good company but thats a lot of bucks for a non-original rifle.
Edit : If it is a True, Navy .308 barrel that might change things a little.
You could go to the Fulton Armory forums they may be of more help.
I'm not looking to buy it. just saw it and thought the price seemed a little low for a documented NM even with the barrel change. But then, I know very little about them. I've always wanted a Garand, not necessarily a NM but a nice shooting example and am trying to soak up info.
And I know Collectors is usually high, but they sometimes do have the rare "deal". My '42 Kar98k is an example. Just have to be at the right place at the right time I guess.
