Hi all, from Lafayette and was looking for somewhere to shoot besides a designated range. Somewhere I could move around and run simple drills. This thread came up while searching.

I have visited the Camp Claiborne area on and off for 20+ years but never really scouted for a target shooting location. I haven't been out to the area in a while but surely there is somewhere with area hill or berm to shoot into.

Target shooting is apparently allowed in National Forests.

I'm not seeing anything in the Rapides Parish ordinances that would be limiting.

Actually, what gave me this idea was seeing a part on the tv show Louisiana Law. The WAF agents were investigation a truck pulled off the road in the forest (not sure where in LA). Turns out the guys were target shooting. They were given a warning but not for shooting guns. It was for driving offroad/not on an OHV trail.

According to this, target shooting in the national forest is not OK

They really make this stuff easy don't they?

“There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws.”
