We bought a camper to bring our elderly dog on vacation opposed to boarding. She is my "first born".

I'm late with pre surgical prayers but prayers for his continued improvement. Glad to hear things went well.

Do other wiener dogs want to sleep under the covers ?? Our female does it all the time. We thought it was just her...

Gucci, our oldest used to, but now they both sleep on top of the covers unless there is thunder/lightening. then all bets are off. ;)
Right now they said Hugo is in icu recovering with a nice ketamine/morphine drip. Sounds pretty good right about now after the last 24 hrs we've all had!

Thats good news... Good for him.

Our weiner dog is not bothered by thunder/lightning but our rat terrier is terrified when a storm is coming. He will hide under the bed and pant or go hide in my daughter's bathroom in the tub.

My prayers go out to you, as a fellow weiner-owner! My little man "Roofus" will be 12 years old this November. He is still a spitfire! He and most other dachshunds I've seen do love to burrow under covers. When I put him in his bed I have to cover him up, heheh... I love my little dog to death, and I totally sympathize with you.

    Peace,
    Swami

We have a poodle/terrier mix. She used to sleep under the covers every night for the first ten years.

And then it was only during the Fall and Winter while it was cold.

This year she'll be 14 and she's slept under the covers with us a total of one or two nights.

On the flipside, if we're in the fifth wheel, she's right there beside me. We keep it cooler in the camper, and she has more beds in the house. I keep a dedicated pet bed in every room I'm in at home. So it's possible in a smaller area, our bed in the camper is the only "bed" she's interested in.

She's had a couple knee surgeries, one which required extensive healing. She's a bouncer. I had to kennel her for four weeks solid. My husband was out of town one week. I pulled our mattress off the bed, drug it into the living room. That week, she was able to crawl into bed like normal. We went ahead and slept in the living room until she was able to use a ramp to get up and down our bed.

I remember as an eight week old puppy, she'd wait until Specularius stopped moving around, and hop up against the side of the bed. Ever so quietly I'd roll over and pull her up in bed. We got caught most of the time. Eventually he stopped trying. :D

What's interesting is watching her go through life stages. As a puppy she'd bounce out of bed ready to play as soon as he woke up in the mornings. As an adult, she'd snort and crawl deeper under the covers until I woke up. As a mature senior dog, she doesn't move much until she hears the closet door close. That means Daddy's dressed after a shower. She bounces awake and races him to the door.

I know more about her sleeping patterns than I do my human kids. LOL

I think Gucci is getting depressed and acting out. I came home to this today at lunch:

He has slung out the bottom tray of his kennel(WTF?!?!?) and shredded the blanket under both kennels!:mamoru:
They are NEVER apart. He's been apart from his little brother for almost 2 days now and acting out a bit.

And here is Hugo in the ICU this evening during visiting hours:

    :hs:
He's doing good and is still on schedule to come home in about 2 weeks.

Poor little guy doesn't know what's going on. He's got that, "I should never have peed on the carpet" look. Hope his spirits hold up during recovery.

Cover that baby's poor cold back! As one with severe back issues, I can tell ya that bad joints hate ANY cold!
LOL! I can assure you he is quite comfortable. The ICU is fairly warm. With the morphine/ketamine (special K) drip he feels no pain. My wife said he probably saw starfish riding in hotair balloons sprinkling rainbows onto unicorns instead of "mommy and daddy"!:rofl::rofl: Poor guy!

    Glad he's doing better....

    Who did the surgery?

Dr. Bordelon at Southeast Vet Specialists over on Division off Vets.

For all who sent prayers and thoughts, I have an update on how Hugo is doing.
We went to visit saturday, and he was very happy to see us. So happy that he wagged his tail for the first time since surgery. The ICU tech said that that was a huge step forward that soon after spinal surgery, so we were very happy parents!
    Here he is saturday:
    picture.php

Then yesterday we went to visit, and he had started to eat more so they unhooked his IV and we were able to visit in an exam room. He had room to crawl around since he still didn't have full motor control of his hind legs much beyond twitching. Until I walked to the other side of the room and he actually pulled himself up on all fours and tried to follow me! I didn't get a pic of this, but the tech did see it so she could note it in his chart. Of course this was another huge development! As long as he keeps progressing and eating on his own, (we're gonna have to start buying cases of vienna sausages now ;)) he could come home as early as wednesday! That'll be a perfect early birthday present for my wife. (thurs)
    Sunday:

Again, thanks to everybody for their prayers and thoughts! It means alot to have everybody in Hugo's corner!
