The General Lee wins in my book because of the raw power of Chrysler BR blocks and the car. Never was a big fan of torsion bar suspension but not a fatal blow. The TA's were alright but the differentil ratios from the factory sucked. No bottom end. Now tweak the TA and it was a fun car. On another note you cannot really appreciate a blown hemi until you experience one . The pulse of the exhaust at an idle is more than a modern engine produces under a load:cool:. For sure the 10mm of engines. And don't forget either car would bother the hell out of the tree huggers.

Kind of glad you guys brought up classic cars. I work on some and it is a love/hate affair. They can be such a PITA to repair. But my all time favorite is getting to set up a carb. I never grow tired of the test drives, ecspecially the WOT runs to dial in the main jets:D

Old_Demon is spot on. The 426 was in a different league, along with all the other BadBoy engines of the day. The Govt. Smog Monsters (Calif) and the Arab Embargo ruined the day. Ah what a time it was. For the record my Dodge Charger ate Mustangs and Cameros for lunch on the drag strip. No circle cars allowed. To each his own. We didn't need a running start!

Since we're bringing up new options...

I'd take this over any of the lame '80s TV/movie cars mentioned so far...

And even that would take second place to the obvious answer...

Meh, jumped my '68 Lemans one time (not on purpose). The landing wasn't nearly as much fun as it looks like on TV. Did manage to keep it on the road afterward, so I guess that's something...

I jumped my '92 Hyundai one time (on purpose). I kept it on the road too. In fact, it stayed in the same spot on the road until the tow truck showed up. And $900 in front end work later, it was back on the road again...and worth twice as much.

LMAO! I feel better since I was at least able to keep driving my car afterward.

Believe me, if I ever win the lottery, I'm getting a General Lee, Bandit, KITT, Magnum PI, and A-Team van. And for good measure, I'll probably pick up a Damnation Alley rig as well.

I'm glad I didn't keep going. If I hadn't immediately busted the front end and grinded to a halt I probably would've ended up in the living room of someone's house. Being 16 and thinking things through don't exactly go together. Ahhh...the good ol' days.

Actually, if I win the lottery the first car I'd buy is the Mad Max Interceptor. I even have the business card of one of the top reproduction guys in the biz tucked away, just in case...

Meh, Stock for stock, Today you can get a factory car that will skull drag every one of the old classics no problem. Don't get me wrong, I love the old cars, but the newer cars have more power, are faster in a straight line, faster in the curves, faster to break and get better fuel economy.

Now BBCs, Hemis, and some FE engines have the basis to make lots of power if you change parts, but they didn't really come from the factory like that.

IMO, I might like a BBC Chevelle, but a LSX drive train in a classic car would be the best of everything..... Unless you just wanted to build up a ground pounding BBC that gets 6mpg and shakes the fenders..... That's kinda cool too.

Now is the golden era. The cars of yesterday have a lot of soul, but modern performance is where its at for sheer numbers. What a time it IS!

lol, posted before I read this. My 427 makes over 500horses, has gotten 26+mpg on the highway averaged over 119mi going both ways, and has a 5/100k mile warranty. Nothing from yesteryear comes close!

This is true, but the Old BBs can make some very stout numbers easy. Those old cylinder heads are just very capable..... they just didn't run that hot from the factory.
