Just wondering. I know I can't be the only one.

Given the times we live in, I tend to avoid it, myself.

Of course there are still some truly family-oriented events out there- but they seem to be getting fewer all the time....Nowdays, even the small-town parades are infected by ferals who bring bull$hit and mayhem along for the ride- Plaquemine yesterday is a good example. I personally don't care to get caught up in that kind of zoo-like atmosphere.:dunno:

I know some people can't imagine life without it- and that's ok. Me- I was born and raised here, but I just don't give a rats ass about it.

Or am I just a defective Louisianian?

May go tomorrow to Metairie for the kids sake. However, I am no novice; so I usually can get around better than most down there and I sure as hell ain't worried about personal safety.

But I will admit, it has taken a backseat since I moved to the Red Stick!

When I was younger and living in Houma, it was certainly a great time. In-laws belonged to carnival krewes so I had the best of the best of times with free food, booze and strategic location. Since I have been away maybe it is just me but it appears to be much different now with the people and the crowds. No desire to be any where near it.

Now that I no longer have to spend Mardi Gras in the Quarter, I enjoy it.

Of course, that is from ON floats and not in the crowds!

We go to one or two parades a year for the kid, and because family lives a couple houses off the route in Thibodaux. Otherwise, count me out.

The only reason I know when it is is because of the re-direction of traffic on my way to work. Meh. Went a few times as a kid to the local parades with my Dad, lasted me a lifetime so far.

Me too. I just don't get the whole Fat Tuesday / Ash Wednesday thing. You get a free ticket to go crazy and indulge in who knows what all, and get up the next day, hungover and go to mass for the priest to scribble an ash cross on your forehead then give up something for 40 days.
