Are the orange, green or yellow stickers on the back windows of cars for having no insurance? I almost got hit by someone with one the other day and wondered how that would have gone for me.
Green stickers (at least up here) mean that our system shows insured, but they do not have the proof of it with them. I can tow if they don't carry the proof, but if they are a mother with small children, or there is some other extenuating circumstance, may not. If the computer shows no insurance, and they can't provide me with a valid card, they get towed no matter what.
most policy is yu must tow unless extinuating circs, like handicapped, young children in inclimate weather, animals, etc. SHould be used in rare circumstances.
You are supposed to tow.
I find it possibly VERY RARE to have a circumstance not to tow them. I bet money they don't pay for insurance but they have a cell phone. Let them call someone to come get them and tow the vehicle. Allow them to sit in the back of your car until their ride shows. A sticker on a window isn't gonna help my situation or medical care (until 2018) if they are allowed to drive off.
Does this leave the officer/PD possibly liable if they let the person go and 20 minutes later they hit someone. I'd say an ambulance chasing lawyer would have a chance at $$$$$$$$$
So let me ask this. If a LEO sees a vehicle with one of these stickers is that a stoppable offense, and then tow the vehicle?
(4) The law enforcement officer making the stop has a reasonable belief that the motor vehicle is covered by a valid and current policy of liability insurance.
