Anybody on here open carry on a regular basis or is this board mostly CC? Have you ever had any problems with Shreveport PD or Caddo Parish Sheriffs Department? For some reason I always get insanely nervous when I'm about to OC in Shreveport.

There used to be a guy here named Manimal who did so all the time. He was interested in pushing the envelope as far as it would go, to see just how much he could get away with. There's a thread on here from about three years ago where he talks about it. Frankly I don't because I think it makes most people nervous when they see a guy carrying a gun in plain clothes.

Im with "my-rifle" I CC everywhere. The only time I OC is if Im coming to or from the camp or my Uncles farm. I get funny looks all the time, but no ones ever said anything to me. I suppose if your interested in needlessly worrying the uniformed public you'll probably be just fine.

I always cc. I feel like there is a target on my back while at work, but it is worse when off in plain clothes. If I were a criminal, and I was, say robbing a store, I see seomeone with a gun, thy are the first I kill.

This is about all I can offer you: OC is legal in LA. Do it if you wish, and if asked to leave any establishments, leave or be charged with trespassing. I open carry at least 50% of the time.

And, for future reference: Don't talk about OC here or any other gun forum without being prepared to take a lot of **** from those too scared to do it.

Thanks to all who contributed anything useful to this thread. I did OC yesterday. I went to Walmart, stopped by the gas station and chatted with an old friend who happened to be there for about ten minutes, and finally I dropped by my favorite Chinese restaurant. Aside from one lady pointing at my gun, asking if I had a CHL with this stern look on her face, then bursting out laughing and telling me she was kidding. It was an uneventful night which as we all know is a good thing.

I've often considered your logic for NOT OC'ing, but there's also that little voice that says even a criminal will think twice and just find an easier target than to deal with having someone armed already on the scene. In all honesty though, I'll just wait until my permit comes in and just CC.

NEVER had an issue with it, its ALL on how you conduct yourself in other peoples eyes. If done in a proper way 90% of the time they will assume you are Law Enforcement and go by their business. If you look like a thug with a gun then yeah you can pretty much expect to be tasting concrete at some point during the day.

Keep in mind that just like people that conceal carry, when you OC you are representing an entire group of people not only yourself and any time you make yourself look like a clown, everybody else is also judged by your mistake.

If for some reasson you are indeed aproached about it be respectful, be responsible and be ready

I live in Shreveport and OC here all the time. I have been asked to leave a hospital before the cops there escorted me out but that was all. They actually apologized for having to do it.

I had a guy outside of a Home Depot once ask why he couldn't carry a gun like I do and I told him he could.

    He responded "That's right."

So what is it about the uniform that makes all these OC guys turn into a**holes around cops?:dunno:

I thought about asking him, but it wasn't worth my time and I really don't care.

Fortunately his inspection sticker and license tag were current on his red F-250........:D

I assume that you are an officer of the law. I can't speak for all the other OC'ers but I have read about a few incidents in Louisiana where people were harassed by police officers because they were carrying a gun openly. Other than a double take from a Shreveport officer in the Walmart parking lot, I haven't had any LEO encounters but based on encounters that other citizens have had, OC'ing around cops makes me nervous as hell. I know that the vast majority of LEOs know that OC is legal but, like my grandpa used to tell me, a few bad apples can spoil the bunch. So my question to you is how do your fellow officers feel about OC?
